Today, Thursday, May 8, 2025, a workshop titled
"Power Electronics and its Applications"
was held. The workshop was presented by Dr. Mohamed Abdel-Barr and Dr. Abdel-Salam Shaaban, lecturer in the Department of Process Control Technology.
Given the importance of power electronics in converting electrical energy with high efficiency and its applications in various modern control systems, from simple household appliances to controlling complex industrial applications, including new and renewable energy systems and electric vehicles, this workshop was offered to students of technology programs. It introduced students to the elements and components of power electronics, and presented their practical applications in the fields of new and renewable energy, electric vehicles, electric traction systems, electric motor control systems of various types, and UPS systems. The theory of operation and design methods for various types of DC-to-DC converters and inverters types were also explained.
At the end of the workshop, the participating students were trained practically on how to adjust the settings of the INVT motor driver, connect it to a three-phase motor, and control its speed.
