National Belonging Levels and their Relationship with the Dimensions of Social Deprivation and Political Alienation among a Sample of University Students Dr. Taha Mohamed Mabrouk Gabr Lecturer of Political Psychology Faculty of Arts- Beni-suef University Abstract: The present paper investigates levels of national belonging and their relationship with social alienation dimensions ‘economic deprivation, education deprivation, career deprivation’, in addition to political alienation among a sample of university students. The research sample consists of 196 participant, aged from 19 to 26 years with the average of 22.16 1.75. The sample is also divided into two categories according to the variable national belonging as follows: low national belonging, andhigh national belonging. The research tools are a measureof national belonging (by the researcher), a measure of the dimensions of social deprivation (by Mohammad Abdul Fattah, 2009), and a measure of political alienation (by the researcher). Finally, the present paper comes with the following results: There are statistical differences between research groups in accordance with the variables of economic deprivation and political alienation for the group of low national belonging, whilevariables of educational deprivations do not exist. The results also indicate the absence of differences in the variable degrees of national belongingand both sex and home don’t reveal the layer of belonging for the individual. Other results show that national belonging is connected to the level of the parents’ education (culture) in the high national belonging group on the contrary of low levels of education.
