New Medical Achievement at Beni Suef University Hospital: Collaboration Between Obstetrics & Gynecology and Oncology Saves Patient with Advanced Cancer

Dr. Tarek Ali, Acting President of Beni Suef University, announced a significant medical success at the university hospitals, where a multidisciplinary medical team managed to save the life of a patient suffering from advanced ovarian cancer. The team successfully performed a comprehensive exploratory surgery, including the removal of the uterus and all cancerous sites, under the supervision of Dr. Hani Hamed, Dean of the Faculty of Medicine and Chairman of the Hospitals’ Board, Dr. Emad El-Banna, Executive Director of University Hospitals, Dr. Eman Zain El-Abidin, Head of the Obstetrics and Gynecology Department, and Dr. Enas El-Nady, Head of the Oncology Department.

Dr. Tarek Ali provided details of the complex case, explaining that the patient’s tumor was at an advanced stage, making initial surgery highly challenging and risky. Based on evidence-based medical recommendations, a precise biopsy was taken, confirming a high-grade malignant tumor. The case was immediately referred to the Oncology Department to implement an intensive treatment protocol, which included administering neoadjuvant chemotherapy to reduce tumor size and severity, preparing the patient for surgical intervention. Dr. Ali confirmed that careful follow-up showed an excellent and highly promising response to chemotherapy, allowing the medical team to proceed safely with the life-saving surgery.

Dr. Hani Hamed added that the integrated treatment plan succeeded once the patient responded well to chemotherapy, allowing her to undergo precise surgical intervention. The surgery was a comprehensive exploratory procedure, during which the uterus and all identified cancerous lesions were meticulously removed. He emphasized that this achievement relied on the competence of the university’s medical staff. The complex surgery was directly supervised by Dr. Said Abdel-Gied, Professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology, with outstanding assistance from Dr. Ahmed Adel, Lecturer in the Obstetrics and Gynecology Department, alongside the exceptional efforts of Dr. Menna Allah Tarek and Ms. Janat. Dr. Hamed also praised the pivotal role played by the anesthesia team, led by Dr. Hagar Essam, in ensuring the procedure’s safety.
