The university president explained that the event aims to highlight early diagnosis of the disease by highlighting the importance of early detection of symptoms to obtain appropriate treatment, improving quality of life through medical care, social and psychological support, and supporting scientific research aimed at understanding the causes of the disease and developing new treatments, while intensifying community awareness by raising awareness among individuals about the disease and how to deal with and support it In addition to the social and psychological impact of the disease, which has a significant impact on the patient's psychological and social well-being, patients may suffer from anxiety and depression due to physical changes and difficulty performing daily activities. The disease can also lead to social isolation due to difficulty moving or speaking Dr. Hanan El-Zeblawy pointed out that statistics show that 6.5 million people around the world suffer from this disease. The most common symptoms of Parkinson's are hand tremors, joint stiffness, and slow movement. People with the disease do not have enough of the chemical dopamine because some of the neurons that produce it have died. Symptoms begin to appear when the brain is unable to produce enough dopamine to properly control movement
It is worth noting that World Parkinson's Day falls on April 11th of each year and is celebrated by a number of organizations with the aim of creating an opportunity to raise awareness, spread knowledge, and expand research on the disease and care for those affected by it. It is a brain condition that causes problems with movement, mental health, and sleep, in addition to causing other health conditions and problems. It is a chronic disease that requires drug treatment, psychological and scientific support, and physical therapy
