Faculty of Nursing at Beni Suef University Organizes Physical and Psychological Safety Day for Women

Under the patronage of Dr. Mansour Hassan, President of Beni Suef University, the Faculty of Nursing organized a special event titled "Women's Physical and Psychological Safety Day", in conjunction with the International Day for the Elimination of Sexual Violence. The event was held under the supervision of Dr. Abu Al-Hassan Abdel-Mawgoud, Vice President for Community Service and Environmental Development, and Dr. Hanan Al-Zeblawi, Dean of the Faculty of Nursing, with coordination by Dr. Amani Arafat, Head of the Department of Maternal and Newborn Health Nursing.

The day's activities featured a lecture by Dr. Samar Zidan, Lecturer in the Department of Maternal and Newborn Health Nursing, titled "Violence Against Women." The session explored the definition of violence, its various forms, prevalence rates, perpetrators, and victims. The lecture focused in particular on sexual violence, highlighting its global spread and the urgency of addressing it. Key topics included the definition and types of sexual violence, its causes and consequences, women’s rights, relevant laws that criminalize such acts, and the roles of governmental institutions, organizations, and community-based units in providing psychological and legal support to victims. The lecture also emphasized the importance of raising awareness and the role of society in prevention and intervention.

Additionally, Dr. Fatma Hosny, Assistant Lecturer in the same department, delivered a lecture on Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) as a form of violence against women. She addressed the psychological and physical consequences of FGM and its link to broader patterns of gender-based violence. The session covered definitions, prevalence, causes, complications, and the critical role of healthcare providers in combating the practice. She also presented the latest statistics and research findings on the issue.
