Dr. Mansour Hassan, President of Beni Suef University, announced that a joint scientific team at the Faculty of Science, in cooperation with the Atomic Energy Authority, the Housing and Construction Research Center, and the Faculty of Technology and Education, won the funding of a research project into complementary cementitious materials in regular and radiation-protecting concrete, with funding from the Science, Technology and Innovation Authority (STDF) at a value of 2 million. This came after the University President received the research team in the presence of Dr. Hamada Mohamed Mahmoud, Dean of the College, who congratulated them and wished them further progress and success.
The university president explained that the project is entitled “To reduce carbon dioxide emissions: industrial waste and mining waste selected as innovative and sustainable supplementary cement materials (SCMs) to partially replace cement in the production of regular concrete and radiation-shielding concrete,” stressing that the project is in line with the state’s plan towards sustainable development, which aims to provide an innovative and integrated strategy to increase the value of mining and industrial waste by exploiting these wastes to produce complementary cement materials to partially replace cement in regular concrete and evaluate their efficiency on radiation-protective concrete.
It is noteworthy that the research team for the project consists of Dr. Muhammad Gad Al-Karim Shaheen, the main researcher of the project and professor of applied minerals, Dr. Ahmed Muhammad Zayed, professor of applied minerals, Dr. Mustafa Abdel-Azim Masoud, teacher of minerals and rocks, Mr. Mustafa Sri Lamloum, Mr. Hussein Ahmed Sayed, and Mr. Ahmed Ali Abdel-Gawad, researchers in the Department of Geology, Dr. Bahaa Saleh Shaaban, a teacher at the College of Technology and Education, Dr. Ahmed Mahmoud Al-Khayyat, Dr. Wajdi Ahmed Qansouh, Dr. Wajih Ramadan at the Atomic Energy Authority, and Dr. Alaa Rashad, a professor at the Housing and Construction Research Center.
