Dr. Tarek Ali, Acting President of Beni-Suef University, attended the opening ceremony of the fourth edition of the Medicinal and Aromatic Plants Festival, held under the slogan “Beni-Suef: The Capital of Medicinal and Aromatic Plants.” The festival runs from October 18 to 19, under the patronage of Prime Minister Eng. Mostafa Madbouly, Dr. Mohamed Hany Ghoneim, Governor of Beni-Suef, and Mr. Belal Habash, Deputy Governor, with the participation of several executive and community entities, as well as international and local organizations, product exhibitors, manufacturers, entrepreneurs, and factory and workshop owners.
The University President stated that this significant event reflects the clear vision of the political leadership, which gives special priority to this sector in support of Egypt’s Vision 2030. The festival contributes to strengthening Egypt’s global competitiveness in the field of medicinal plants.
He pointed out that the festival aims to enhance cooperation among stakeholders and professionals in the medicinal and aromatic plants sector both locally and internationally, including the government sector, private companies, and leading countries in the field. It also seeks to promote the exchange of expertise that adds value to the medicinal and aromatic plants production chain and to highlight the role of scientific research in improving all stages of production—from cultivation and processing to the final product.
Dr. Tarek Ali added that the university is strongly participating in the event through its advanced research institute, the Institute of Medicinal and Aromatic Plant Research, as well as the Faculty of Pharmacy. This reflects the university’s pioneering role in supporting scientific research and providing an advanced research environment that enhances the agricultural value of these plants.
He emphasized that medicinal and aromatic plants hold great economic importance in both agriculture and industry, serving as a vital source of income for a wide range of farmers and manufacturers. He also noted that Egypt enjoys a distinguished global standing in this field, with Beni-Suef Governorate being one of the country’s key exporters of these valuable resources. The state, he added, is working to further develop and advance this vital sector.
On the sidelines of the festival, an exhibition dedicated to medicinal and aromatic plants was inaugurated.
