"Together to Combat Violence and Female Genital Mutilation" Awareness Seminar at Beni Suef University

Under the patronage of Dr. Tarek Ali, Acting President of Beni Suef University, the university's Anti-Violence Against Women Unit, in cooperation with The Faculty of Social Work held an awareness seminar entitled "Together Against Violence and Female Genital Mutilation" as part of Beni Suef University's commitment to promoting community awareness, correcting misconceptions, and activating the role of community units in raising awareness about various women's issues and empowering them in different fields. The seminar also aimed to promote the values ??of equality and respect for women's rights. The event was held under the supervision of Dr. Abu El-Hassan Abdel-Mawgoud, Vice President of the University for Community Service and Environmental Development, Dr. Hamada Mahmoud, Vice President of the University for Education and Student Affairs, and Dr. Hindawi Abdel-Lahi, Dean of the Faculty of Social Work. The seminar targeted young students of the faculty and was held in cooperation with the Better Life Association for Development and Training in Beni Suef and CARE Egypt

Dr. Tarek Ali, the university president, affirmed that violence against women and female genital mutilation (FGM) constitute a blatant violation of human rights and a challenge to the values ??of authentic Egyptian society, which honors women and safeguards their dignity. He explained that the university gives special attention to raising awareness about these issues through seminars and educational events, in implementation of the political leadership's directives to empower women and protect them from all forms of physical and psychological violence. The university president also called for the concerted efforts of state institutions and civil society to spread a culture of societal rejection of these practices, emphasizing that awareness and education are the most powerful weapons to confront and eradicate them

The seminar reviewed the issue of combating violence and female genital mutilation from several awareness and educational axes. Dr. Mohamed El-Sherbiny, Vice Dean of the Faculty of Social Work for Education and Student Affairs, addressed the meeting on the effects of violence on social aspects and the extent of its impact on the cohesion of society. Dr. Ghada Atef, Director of the Anti-Violence Against Women Unit at Beni Suef University, gave a presentation on the role of the unit and the mechanisms for communicating with it to provide services and support, stressing the seriousness of the phenomenon of violence and its negative effects on the individual and society

The seminar concluded by emphasizing the importance of confronting all forms of violence and promoting the values ??of equality and equal opportunities, in line with the national strategies and development goals of the Egyptian state, amidst positive interaction and open discussion from students about ways to reduce the phenomenon of violence and spread a culture of awareness in society
