Under the patronage of Dr. Tarek Ali, Acting President of Beni Suef University, Magdy Marei, a first-year student in the Faculty of Arts, will discuss his new play, "Plays from the Canal Line," published by the Supreme Council of Culture's "Creative Dedication" series. The book comprises six plays for children: "The Thousand-Mile Journey," "A Serious Game," "Grandpa's Box," "The Little Shepherd," "Maryam," and "A Bus on the Road." The discussion will be moderated by Dr. Ahmed Abdel-Aleem, Director General of the Dedication Department, and will feature presentations by Ahmed Zaham, children's author and former Undersecretary of the Ministry of Culture; Dr. Gamal El-Fishawy, renowned critic and artist; Dr. Ahmed Salah Hashem, journalist and critic; and Raja Mahmoud, media personality and director.
Dr. Tariq Ali expressed his pride in the excellence of student Magdi Marai, stressing that the university pays special attention to nurturing student talents in various fields and works to support its creative students. He pointed out that the creative achievements of this student in the field of playwriting and authorship reflect an honorable image of the students of Beni Suef University, especially since the book aims to strengthen the Egyptian identity among children and instill a spirit of national belonging in their souls, through a mixture of theatrical imagination and historical facts that embody the heroism of the sons of the Canal and their role in protecting the homeland throughout the ages.
Student Magdy Marei explained that the motivation behind publishing this work is to present the theater as a window through which the child can look at the history of the Canal region, which formed a stage for national events that embodied the heroism of Egyptians in resisting the British and Zionist occupation. The child also learns through it about the popular heritage represented in the art of the Simsimiyya and its role in expressing the spirit of resistance.
