A medical team at Beni Suef University Hospitals successfully performed a direct breast reconstruction procedure using a muscle flap following the removal of a cancerous tumor.

Dr. Tarek Ali, Acting President of Beni Suef University, announced the success of a medical team at Beni Suef University Hospitals in performing a direct breast reconstruction surgery using a muscle flap after the removal of a cancerous tumor, under the supervision of Dr. Hani Hamed, Dean of the Faculty of Medicine, Dr. Emad El-Banna, Executive Director of University Hospitals, and Dr. Wael El-Shaer, Head of the Department of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery.
The university president explained that this success reflects the great progress witnessed by Beni Suef University hospitals in providing advanced medical services that rival major medical centers, and confirms the efficiency of national medical personnel, expressing his pride in this medical achievement that reflects the scientific and professional excellence of the doctors, and confirms the university’s commitment to its role in providing advanced health services to the people of the governorate.
Dr. Hani Hamed pointed out that this success is the culmination of continuous efforts in developing medical education and clinical training within the Faculty of Medicine, and reflects the high level that our doctors have reached, stressing his keenness to ensure that the college is a stimulating environment for research and practical application, and to graduate highly competent medical personnel.
Dr. Emad Al-Banna, the hospital's executive director, said that the delicate surgery was performed using the DIEP Flap technique, which allows for breast reconstruction while preserving the abdominal muscles and wall and supporting them with a mesh, thus ensuring outstanding cosmetic and functional results.
The medical team was headed by Dr. Abdul Rahman Jamal Zaki, a lecturer and consultant in plastic and reconstructive surgery, in cooperation with the oncology surgical team led by Dr. Mustafa Al-Jarhi, along with sincere efforts from the anesthesia, nursing and technical support teams.
