Under the patronage of Dr. Tarek Ali, Acting President of Beni Suef University, first-year students at the Faculty of Mass Communication have launched a pioneering awareness initiative under the slogan “Let’s Cut Down on Social Media,” as part of the “Introduction to Media Psychology” course. The initiative aims to restore balance between the virtual world and real life.
The initiative is supervised by Dr. Mamdouh Mekawy, Dean of the Faculty of Mass Communication; Dr. Nesreen Hossam El-Din, Vice Dean for Education and Student Affairs; and Dr. Fatma Fayez, Head of the Journalism Department.
April 14 has been designated to implement a “Digital Detox” experiment, during which students have invited everyone to completely refrain from using electronic devices and social media platforms for a full day. The goal is to break patterns of digital dependency and assess their impact on mental clarity.
The initiative seeks to achieve several key objectives, most notably raising awareness about the risks of excessive use of digital platforms and its impact on focus and productivity, encouraging individuals to return to traditional activities such as reading and sports, strengthening direct family connections, contributing to rationalizing energy consumption resulting from continuous use of devices and networks, and ultimately fostering digital balance while cultivating a conscious generation capable of harnessing technology rather than being consumed by it.
