Dr. Tarek Ali, Acting President of Beni Suef University, stated that the university hospitals have witnessed significant development in recent years. Their services are no longer limited to residents of Beni Suef Governorate, but have expanded to receive patients from neighboring governorates, as well as visitors to Egypt from sister countries.
Dr. Tarek Ali explained that the language of numbers reflects the scale of achievement. The emergency department receives approximately 150,000 patients annually, performing 8,000 emergency surgeries and 6,500 emergency dialysis sessions. Meanwhile, the annual inpatient rate reaches 34,000 cases, including 9,500 intensive care cases and 9,000 surgeries. In addition, outpatient clinics receive around 270,000 visitors each year, embodying a humanitarian mission that transcends geographical boundaries.
The Acting President added that the university hospitals are distinguished at the governorate level by offering specialized services such as plasmapheresis, with 1,750 sessions annually, as well as stroke units, open-heart surgery, corneal transplantation, in vitro fertilization, and nuclear medicine scanning, ensuring the provision of advanced healthcare services that meet the standards deserved by Egyptian citizens.
Dr. Hany Hamed, Dean of the Faculty of Medicine and Chairman of the University Hospitals Board, stated that the Oncology and Burn Hospital provides 13,000 chemotherapy sessions annually, while 150,000 patients benefit from follow-up services. The hospital also performs 75 emergency burn surgeries. Laboratories and radiology services serve as the first line of defense, conducting 725,000 laboratory tests and 82,000 radiological examinations annually, in addition to providing 16,000 chronic dialysis sessions.
Dr. Emad El-Banna, Executive Director of the hospitals, confirmed that the hospitals contribute to alleviating financial burdens on citizens by processing state-funded treatment requests for 5,000 patients annually, with total claims reaching 150 million Egyptian pounds. He also noted that work is currently underway on the construction of the “Main Hospital,” the “Oncology Hospital,” and the “Women and Children’s Hospital” in the East Nile area. Preparations are also nearing completion for the opening of specialized facilities, including the “Eye and Corneal Surgery Hospital” and the “National Rehabilitation Center.”
