Beni Suef University Discusses Forming the First Scientific Excavation Mission in the University’s History

Dr. Tarek Ali, Acting President of Beni Suef University, chaired an expanded meeting to discuss prospects for joint cooperation with the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities, with the aim of integrating academic and field efforts in the field of archaeological work. The meeting was attended by Dr. Abdel Aziz El Sayed, Dr. Yasser Gaber, Dr. Wafaa, Dr. Zeinab Heshish, Dr. Dina Mohamed Atwa, Dr. Mamdouh Farouk, in addition to a number of specialists.

Dr. Tarek Ali explained that the meeting addressed ways to form the first archaeological excavation mission affiliated with Beni Suef University, in a manner that contributes to supporting practical training for students of the Faculty of Archaeology and interdisciplinary study programs, through providing an applied field environment that enhances their professional skills and qualifies them for the labor market in the fields of excavation, restoration, and archaeological documentation. This comes within the framework of the university’s strategy to develop the system of education and scientific research and to strengthen partnerships with government institutions.

The attendees also discussed mechanisms for employing the latest scientific technologies in the field of archaeometric studies (Archaeometry) and applied sciences related to the discovery and preservation of antiquities, in a way that supports the state’s direction toward developing archaeological work according to modern scientific methods. They also emphasized the importance of this step in contributing to achieving new archaeological discoveries that enrich Egyptian history and highlight the greatness of civilization, in addition to supporting the historical status of Beni Suef Governorate on the cultural tourism map.

The attendees agreed to begin selecting one of the important archaeological sites within the governorate to serve as the headquarters for the mission’s work, in a way that achieves a qualitative addition to the Egyptian archaeological map and enhances the role of the university as an active scientific institution in serving issues of heritage and national identity.

This step comes within the framework of the vision of Beni Suef University to integrate academic knowledge with practical application and to open promising professional horizons for graduates in the fields of archaeological work and specialized scientific research.
