Under the patronage of Professor Tarek Ali, Acting President of Beni Suef University, the Department of Theatre at the Faculty of Arts presents the theatrical performance “Shame on You”, written and directed by student Ahmed Abu Ouf and starring a number of the department’s students. The play will be performed today, Wednesday, May 13, at the National University Theater, as part of the practical projects of the Department of Theatre.
The performance is held under the supervision of Professor Hamada Mohamed, Vice President for Education and Student Affairs; Professor Abu El Hassan Abdel Mawgoud, Vice President for Community Service and Environmental Development; Professor Azza Farouk Gohary, Dean of the Faculty of Arts; Professor Rehab Youssef, Vice Dean for Education and Student Affairs; and Professor Omar Farag, Head of the Department of Theatre and Drama.
The play discusses the reality of the contemporary Egyptian family through a blend of comedy and social criticism. It addresses the issue of generational conflict, cultural differences, and the impact of social media on society within a framework of comedic social fantasy. The story begins when the simple employee, Radi Abdel Radi, makes a heartfelt wish in the darkness to see his late father once again. His father then returns, stepping out of his portrait wearing his traditional fez, with his dignity and strong personality intact, only to clash with the reality of his son and grandchildren. Through a series of artistic scenes, the performance highlights the moral and behavioral decline witnessed in contemporary society.
The performance stars a distinguished group of students from the Department of Theatre, led by actor Adel El Gendy, who shines in the role of the grandfather. His appearance is met with laughter and applause from the audience as he delivers a powerful call for society to revive the phrase “Shame on You,” once considered a moral standard governing social behavior and the harshest criticism anyone feared receiving.
The cast also includes students Khaled Mohamed, Shahd Yasser, Omar Abdel Nasser, Shahd Moawad, Youssef Ahmed, Amgad Saqr, Ahmed Abu Kasheek, Mahmoud El Hadary, Marwan Ghoneim, and Menna Ahmed, alongside the child actors Mariam Mohamed and Anas Ahmed.
Lighting design for the performance was created by director Mostafa Ibrahim, a second-year student in the department. The music was prepared by Ahmed Mahran, while theatrical management was handled by Ibrahim Rafik, both also second-year students in the department.
