Under the patronage of Dr. Tarek Ali, Acting President of Beni Suef University, the Faculty of Navigation and Space Technology, represented by the Applied Sciences for Space and Navigation Program, participated in the activities of the specialized workshop entitled “Observing and Studying Near-Earth Objects Using the Telescopes of the Katameya Astronomical Observatory,” which was organized by the National Research Institute of Astronomy and Geophysics. This came under the supervision of Dr. Abu Al-Hassan Abdel-Mawgoud, Vice President of the University for Community Service and Environmental Development Affairs, Dr. Osama Shalaby, Dean of the Faculty, Dr. Manal Gamal El-Din, Vice Dean of the Faculty for Community Service and Environmental Development Affairs, Dr. Ahmed Badawy Yassin, Lecturer in the Department of Space Sciences and Program Coordinator, and with the participation of Teaching Assistant Sarah Medhat in the Department of Space Sciences.
Dr. Tariq Ali emphasized that the university is keen to provide its students with the opportunity to participate in specialized scientific events, which contributes to developing their research and applied skills, enhancing cooperation with national research institutions, and preparing qualified personnel capable of keeping pace with the rapid developments in the fields of space science and astronomy. The workshop aimed to develop the participants' skills in observing near-Earth objects, provide practical training on the use of telescopes at the Katameya Astronomical Observatory, introduce them to the latest astronomical observation techniques, and teach them the use of specialized software in collecting and analyzing astronomical data. It also included studying the orbits of near-Earth objects, methods of tracking them, and assessing their potential risks, all of which contributes to preparing qualified scientific personnel in the fields of space science and astronomy.
At the conclusion of the participation, Dr. Osama Shalaby, Dean of the College, expressed his sincere thanks and appreciation to the National Research Institute of Astronomy and Geophysics for organizing this distinguished scientific workshop. He also thanked Dr. Ahmed Magdy, and all the lecturers, organizers, and those responsible for preparing and implementing the workshop, in appreciation of their efforts in providing a scientific and training program that contributed to developing the knowledge and applied skills of the participants, and strengthening the bonds of scientific cooperation between universities and research institutions in the field of space sciences and astronomy.
