Under the patronage of Dr. Tarek Ali, Acting President of Beni-Suef University, the Faculty of Education organized an awareness seminar entitled “Mental Health in the Digital Age and the Impact of Social Media.” The seminar was held as part of the University's commitment to promoting psychological and educational awareness, keeping pace with the rapid changes of the digital age, and encouraging the responsible use of technology. It was held under the supervision of Dr. Osama Mahmoud Korany, Dean of the Faculty, and Dr. Ahmed Fekry Bahnassawy, Vice Dean for Community Service and Environmental Development. The seminar was delivered by Dr. Asmaa Zein El-Abdeen, Lecturer of Mental Health at the Faculty.
Dr. Tarek Ali emphasized that the University attaches great importance to its awareness-raising role in addressing the psychological and social challenges arising from successive digital transformations. He noted that the University administration is keen to build a generation equipped with sufficient awareness and the ability to respond positively to the developments and demands of the modern age.
The University President explained that promoting mental health is a fundamental pillar in building well-rounded and balanced university students. He stressed that educational institutions bear an inherent responsibility to enhance psychological and digital awareness among students and society alike.
Dr. Tarek Ali also pointed out that organizing this seminar stems from the University's social responsibility and its mission to translate psychological and educational knowledge into conscious application and positive practices that directly contribute to protecting individuals and enhancing their quality of life.
The Dean of the Faculty explained that the seminar explored the psychological dimensions of social media use and the impact of excessive use on psychological and social adjustment and self-esteem. It also emphasized the importance of maintaining a balance between digital and real life and preventing the virtual world from negatively affecting direct human interaction. He added that the event's central message is that technology is merely a means of improving life, not a substitute for it. Mental health, he stressed, begins with awareness and digital balance as essential skills for human development.
It is worth noting that this event is part of a series of awareness-raising activities organized by the Faculty of Education at Beni-Suef University to uphold its mission of protecting minds, building individuals, and shaping a better future.
