Under the patronage of Dr. Tarek Ali, Acting President of Beni Suef University, and within the framework of the university's keenness to spread the culture of community awareness, and promote the values ??of equality and respect for women's rights, the Anti-Violence Against Women Unit at the university, in cooperation with the Faculty of Law and the Better Life Association for Development and Training in Beni Suef, organized an awareness seminar entitled "Together to Combat Violence Against Women," under the supervision of Dr. Abu Al-Hassan Abdel-Mawgoud, Vice President of the University for Community Service and Environmental Development Affairs, Dr. Hamada Mahmoud, Vice President of the University for Education and Student Affairs, Dr. Adel Abu Hashima, Dean of the Faculty, Dr. Fatima Abdel-Alim, Vice Dean of the Faculty for Community Service and Environmental Development Affairs, and Dr. Ghada Atef, Director of the Anti-Violence Against Women Unit at the university. This came in the presence of Sheikh Sayed Zayed, one of the scholars of Al-Azhar Al-Sharif, and a number of faculty members, employees, and students.
Dr. Tariq Ali affirmed that the symposium comprehensively addressed the issue of combating violence against women through several diverse awareness and educational themes, aiming to enhance community awareness and support gender equality. He noted that the opening session discussed the multifaceted effects of violence on social aspects, emphasizing its negative impact on social cohesion and family stability, which hinders comprehensive development and affects the fabric of individuals' daily lives.
The university president also noted that the symposium featured a rich and interactive program, beginning with a moving theatrical performance that depicted the issue of violence in a realistic scene reflecting the daily challenges women face. This performance sparked significant interaction among the audience and prompted them to reflect deeply on this problem. This was followed by a specialized presentation on Islam's stance on violence in general and violence against women in particular. The speaker emphasized that Islam strongly advocates mercy and tolerance as the foundation of human relations, while ensuring the preservation of human dignity for all without discrimination, based on Islamic legal texts that reject any form of harm or injustice.
In addition, the seminar covered the legal, social, and medical dimensions of violence against women in detail. It explained the texts of Egyptian and international laws that criminalize all forms of violence—physical, psychological, and economic—and outlined the mechanisms for protection and punishment of perpetrators. The long-term health and psychological effects of violence on victims were also presented, including psychological and physical disorders, and how this impacts the stability of the entire family and the cohesion of society as a whole. Practical suggestions for prevention and psychological and medical support for victims were also offered.
The university president emphasized the need to decisively confront all forms of violence against women, while promoting the values ??of equality and equal opportunities between the sexes, in accordance with national strategies and the sustainable development goals of the Egyptian state. The seminar witnessed significant positive interaction and open discussion among students regarding ways to reduce violence and spread a culture of community awareness, within the framework of the university's comprehensive plan to activate the role of community units in raising awareness of women's issues and empowering them in various social, economic, and cultural fields.
