Beni Suef University Hospitals achieve a new medical breakthrough by saving a patient's hand from amputation

Dr. Tarek Ali, Acting President of Beni Suef University, announced the success of a team from the Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery Department at Beni Suef UniversityHospitals in saving a patient's hand from complete amputation
After suffering a near-total amputation accompanied by acute circulatory failure, a delicate surgical procedure lasting approximately 10 continuous hours was performed, marking a new medical achievement that exemplifies the efficiency of the medical teams and the specialized expertise at the university hospital.
This was done under the supervision of Dr. Hani Hamed, Dean of the Faculty of Medicine and Chairman of the Board of Directors of University Hospitals, Dr. Emad El-Banna, Executive Director of Beni Suef University Hospitals, and Dr. Wael El-Shaer, Head of the Department of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery
The hospital received the patient in critical condition, where she received immediate treatment and was transferred directly to the operating room. A comprehensive exploratory surgery was performed, including the repair of a major artery, as well as the restoration of delicate nerves and tendons. This was achieved after the bones were stabilized by the orthopedic surgery team, in a multidisciplinary medical intervention.
Dr. Tarek emphasized that this success reflects the advanced level achieved by Beni Suef University Hospitals in performing delicate surgeries and managing critical cases. He also noted the university administration's commitment to supporting medical staff and providing the necessary resources to conduct such complex operations within the governorate, thus alleviating the burden on patients
For his part, Dr. Hani Hamed explained that the operation is a distinguished model of integration between different departments, as rapid intervention was carried out from the moment the case was received, and precise repair of the injured artery was performed, in addition to the restoration of nerves and tendons after fixing the bones, stressing the continued development of the precise specialties and raising the efficiency of the medical teams according to the latest standards
Dr. Emad Al-Banna pointed out that the speed with which the case was dealt with played a crucial role in the success of the operation, noting that the integration between the plastic surgery, orthopedics and anesthesia teams contributed to stabilizing the case and the patient leaving with positive results, stressing that the hospitals continue to provide advanced medical services to the people of the governorate and neighboring governorates
The surgery was performed by a distinguished team from the Department of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, including Dr. Mohamed Atef El-Khouly (Lecturer and Consultant Plastic Surgeon), Dr. Ahmed Mohamed Shakshek, and Dr. Shehab El-Din Ahmed (Assistant Lecturers), along with several resident physicians, a team from the Department of Orthopedic Surgery, the Anesthesia team, and the nursing staff.
The patient is currently under close medical observation, and his condition is described as good following the successful operation
